Greggie's room had a pink wall and a bright pink bathroom. It was very hard for him to stand to be in his room. He decided he couldn't do anything in there because the pink made him sad. We decided to surprise him with it being painted while he was at his dads house for the weekend instead of waiting for his birthday. We did it for both boys Greggie and Calvin. When they saw it they were SOOOOOOOOO excited and happy! We had fun doing it for them. Greggie's wall was the most difficult to paint evenly for some reason.
When we told Greggie it might be a while before we could get some paint for his wall, he was very sad about it. We talked about how sometimes we have to go without things that we want in order to have things that we need. He kind of understood but was still struggling. That night he came to us and said he read the friend magazine for scriptures as he couldn't find his scriptures and read a story about a girl who had a bedroom with a color she didn't like and had to wait for it to be different. She learned about being grateful and having patience and learning to love what she had. It helped Greggie and we told him how cool of an experience that was for him. We encouraged him to write it down so he wouldn't forget.
There is no greater feeling in this life than being able to serve my wife and my children. I am grateful that were able to buy some paint and make Greggie feel like his room was his. It was so much fun painting with mommy and spending that time with her. Watson and Eli even enjoyed seeing what were were doing and wanted to help. We worked late into the night to ensure that there not a dot of pink paint left in Greggie's room. I am grateful for both Calvin and Greggie and for the young men that they are becoming.
