Remember July (or Forget it)

July was FULL of what seemed like bad luck. Although we got a house rather quickly and were able to move in fast, we lost a lot of meat in the freezer on the move here...

Well, if the first week back from the Honeymoon wasn't enough, the second week had to be even more stressful! Once in Gunter, Tia and I had to quickly find a home for our family to live. We knew the price range we could afford and called a realtor to help us find a place. The first house we looked at was very large with a decent sized back yard but it was on a very busy street and honestly the interior was very out of date. The carpet had stains everywhere and I could tell that Tia wasn't very impressed. The second house we looked at was very small and tight with barely enough room in the backyard for a swing set. I think the worst part was the kitchen counters made with tiles on top. It felt very dark and gross. The third house we looked at wasn't much better and had a funky smell inside which made us worry about mold. We were about to stop looking for the day when I searched one more time and a house that had just dropped its price appeared and I asked our realtor to take us there. This was a 3500 sqft house in Little Elm. It was 5 bedrooms and 3 baths which seemed perfect for our family. It had been freshly repainted and the carpet smelled and looked new. The backyard was fenced in on a corner lot which would allow for plenty of room for the kiddos to play. This house was the perfect fit financially and physically for our family! We had to have it! We started the paperwork right away and were approved to move in on July 5th!

My boss was nice enough to let me work from the Corporate office on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. He was also willing to fly me down to Corpus and back that week as I was "working at the corporate office on his behalf". I made arrangements to fly to corpus on Wednesday, Pick up a moving truck and get all the stuff into the truck so I could drive up on July 4th with everything from Corpus. Easier said then done. I ended up running late to the airport because I didn't leave on time. I had to take the car to the Little Elm House so when I got there the next day I could park the moving truck and have my car to drive to Gunter. As I said, I was running late and then I had to get an Uber to get to the airport. I unfortunately missed my flight. I called to see my options and they told me if I would go inside I might be able to make the next flight. Unfortunately, this meant that I would get to U-haul right as they were closing and might not be able to get my truck until the next day which would slow everything down. I just hoped and prayed that I would land a little early and have time to get there. We ended up landing a few minutes early and I ordered and Uber right as we landed. I ran to the Uber and told him where we needed to go. We got there 5 minutes before U-haul closed. I was able to sign the paperwork for the truck and the manager was about to leave when I realized I didn't have the key to the storage unit. He informed me that he was going to church and would not be able to do anything to help me. He looked at me and said, "get into your unit but I don't know anything about it". So I had to find a way to break the lock. We had used a very strong lock that bolt cutters wouldn't work on. Luckily one of the men from the church who came to help had an angle grinder so we could cut off the lock but as we walked to the unit, there were no plugs anywhere. So here we were with a moving truck and a handful of guys but no way to load the truck. One of the brethren informed me that he had a generator and that he would go get it and come back. He arrived with the generator and started it up and I carefully cut the lock off the storage unit!

By this time, because it took so long to get into the unit, there were only 4 adults and 3 young men to help load the truck. I felt awful asking them to help but they insisted they could stay until the truck was loaded. It took a lot of energy and effort but we finally had the entire truck loaded and boy was it packed! One of the families, (The Luke's) offered to let me stay on their couch that night. It was very nice. I showered and then went to bed exhausted. I woke up at 6 am and left to get on my way. The drive to Little elm was long and difficult with the large moving truck but I made it to the house around 3 pm. I decided before I left, to plug in the freezer full of meat so it would start freezing the food again. Unfortunately, when I opened the door of the truck and looked inside, there was meat juice all over the floor. The Freezer had opened on the drive and all the meat and food in the freezer had spoiled! I was devastated. I grabbed trash bags and threw everything away into the trash. I pulled the freezer off the truck and cleaned it up and then locked everything up and drove up to Gunter to be with Tia and the boys. The next day we unloaded the truck with help from family and the church. After unloading the truck, we then went to Gunter to load up all of the stuff left at Mom's house and brought it down. Then we went back later that afternoon and sorted through all of the things in the storage container next to the trailer and the shop. That was truly exhausting. It took hours. Tia and I sorted the trash and the keep and Jarom was so kind to come out and help. We ended up filling the large trailer full of trash. Tia and I went back to Mom's to shower and go to sleep. I woke up early and grabbed a couch mom wanted gone and headed to the dump with Watson. We dumped it all and then headed back to get Eli, Harrison, Perry and Tia and went down to the new house. We unloaded the truck for the final time and returned it just in time. Although exhausted, we were excited to be in our new home and start unpacking and making it ours. It was a crazy time, but again we only grew closer together as a family from our experience. I know that Heavenly Father loves us and that He always knows what is best. It is far easier to get frustrated and feel that we aren't loved but that is not true. Heavenly Father loves us and if we look to Him in moments of need, He is always there.
