Corpus Christi Visit

After the honeymoon, Adam picked us up from the airport and we drove back to mom's. We drove to Tyler's to pick up the 4 boys and then drove to College Station to get Watson and Eli. Then we drove all the way to Corpus Christi. It was not a fun drive. It was later in the afternoon and the kids were not prepared for such a long drive. We finally made it to the house where we discovered the air-conditioner had stopped working. As a result, the house was very hot and water had leaked from the unit in the ceiling. The landlord was not in a hurry to fix the air conditioner or the water damage. We talked about it after a day or so in Corpus and decided it was best for the kids to be in the Dallas area for now as the drive was not easy for them. We packed up the whole house and moved within a day. It was a struggle! We didn't get much sleep and drove separately 8 hours back to Gunter. We moved in with mom until we could find a home to rent.
Life in the Corpus house was basically a window unit in the master bedroom, fans on high in the kids rooms, windows open at night, playing outside and windows open throughout the house throughout the day. One day it rained so I had to have the windows closed.
I think I was in shock over all the huge changes and things we had to do.

While in Corpus we went to the beach as the boys really wanted to experience it. It was a wonderful memory to experience.

What a crazy memory! We just ended a wonderful week of bliss and came back to a very difficult week. Friday night after arriving back from our honeymoon, my brother Steven gave me a call. He was in Corpus with his family visiting the beach and wanted to do some laundry at our place. I told him he could and not too long after the call he let me know that the ceiling in the bathroom had collapsed and there was water everywhere. I called the landlord and they said they would get someone there first thing in the morning. We picked up all the boys and made the long, very long, journey to Corpus Christi. We arrived around 8:30 pm. I was told earlier that morning that the AC had been repaired and that the ceiling would be repaired on Monday. When we walked into the house, it was warmer inside than outside and very muggy. Turns out the AC died after they "repaired" it. I called the landlord and they sent out the AC people again and we were told it was broken and would take several days to get a part. The landlord was willing to bring one window unit to the house. We now had one room that was cool and the rest of the house was terribly hot. As the week progressed, the landlord refused to fix the property correctly and ended up evicting us on Wednesday with three days notice. Unfortunately, we had to have the boys back to have a visit with Tyler on Friday so that gave us basically one day to pack up the entire house into a storage unit and drive back to Gunter. The ward down there came and helped us move things into the storage unit on Thursday which took much longer than we anticipated. Tia and I then cleaned the house until about 3 am. We woke up at 5 to finish packing and cleaning and got the boys out to the car so we could leave. It was a very long drive as I was pulling a trailer behind the truck and Tia was driving the Van. We ended up leaving the mini van at a friends house. When we arrived in Gunter, I unhooked the trailer and then drove the truck to make a trade with a car. It was a good trade and I am very happy to have a car that gets better gas mileage but I was sad to separate from a truck I had for 7 years. Although the week in Corpus was not what we anticipated, we had a blast for our fist week together as a family and really started bonding. Nothing like trials to bring a family closer together. I know that Heavenly Father had his hand in this and allowed us to find a better situation for our family. During the moment, it was very overwhelming but I know that as we trust in the Lord, we can find peace and understanding.
